From 1984 through 1986, Geoff found himself in the (Electrical) Engineering Faculty at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, with scholarships out the wazoo. Getting pretty much straight A+'s through the first two years, but getting really sick of it by the beginning of Third Year. Plus, his mom died that autumn.
Cancer is never pretty.
Geoff thought that he might like being a stand-up comedian, so he got up on stage close to a dozen times that winter at the Yuk-Yuk's place in Winnipeg. Then decided that trying to make drunken construction workers laugh by doing anything intelligent wasn't going to get him anywhere, and worked the following summer at a fishing lodge near Kenora.
